'PATRICIA' RED WINE
NORTH COAST
Tasting Notes: A blend of 2002 Cabernet and 2000 Syrah emphasizes the grapes’ fruit and the barrel aging to make a wine that is soft but rich and complements spicy tomato-based dishes. The Cabernet contributes the berry aroma and the Syrah the spicy element.
| Alcohol: | 14.5% by volume |
| Total Production: | 140 cases |
Grapes: Two barrels made from our new Cabernet vineyard on Pritchard Hill and four barrels of Wattle Creek Syrah (Alexander Valley near Geyser Ville).
Vinification: Both the Cabernet and Syrah were made in a way that permits the fruit to be prominent rather than technique, oak, alcohol, etc. Very little pre-soaking was used. Older red barrels were used to avoid oaky competition with the younger wine. Extended aging was used to allow the contribution that aging can bring to defining the character and taste of the wine.
Notes from Bob Long: Here is the red counter-part to our “Patricia” white wine that emphasizes the wine’s use as a complement to certain styles of food. Even though it is over 14% alcohol, it still is medium-bodied in feel but substantial enough to stand up to these spicy dishes without dominating or clashing with them. The colors of the label represent Pat’s love of the Southwest and, of course, her red lipstick color! This wine is available from the winery, only.
